Professor Paul Kaye and Dr Peter O’Toole have been successful in their bid to the York Maastricht Partnership.
The partnership was set up earlier this year to support research and education collaborations between both institutions. This first tranche of funding is made up of contributions from the Partnership, University departments, research council grants, and private sector funding and will support joint research initiatives across York and Maastricht.
This project, led by Professor Kaye and Dr O’Toole in York, and in collaboration with Prof Ron Heeren, Maastricht University, will use state of the art Imaging Mass Spectrometry and GeoMx (superscript TM) Digital Spatial Profiling protein and RNA profiling to better understand how immune cells regulate their metabolism in complex inflammatory environments. The research will initially focus on tackling diseases in which York and Maastricht already have considerable expertise (breast cancer and leishmaniasis), eventually expanding this to a range of other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
